This season, one thing was very clear: Interiors are becoming warmer, more personal, and far more expressive.
Every spring and fall, the design world gathers in North Carolina for High Point Market, the largest furniture trade show in the world. Spanning hundreds of buildings and thousands of brands, it is where designers, makers, and industry leaders come together to share what is next in furniture, lighting, textiles, and interiors.
For us, High Point is less about chasing trends and more about gathering inspiration. It is an opportunity to see how design is evolving, discover new ideas, and thoughtfully consider what feels aligned with the homes we create for our clients.

Pattern is Making a Beautiful Return
One of the biggest trends we noticed throughout the showrooms was the return of pattern, especially on upholstery.
Striped sofas, patterned lounge chairs, and layered textiles appeared everywhere, bringing personality and softness into spaces that may have previously felt more neutral or restrained. We loved seeing classic patterns used in fresh and relaxed ways that still felt elevated and sophisticated.
Rather than overly formal spaces, the overall feeling was collected, inviting, and deeply personal.
It is a direction we are very excited about as we continue to move away from interiors that feel overly minimal or one dimensional.

Decorative Details Are Back
Another detail we noticed throughout many collections was the return of contrast trim and decorative accents on furniture.
Fringe detailing on ottomans, contrast welting on upholstery, and layered textile trims added character and charm in a way that felt intentional rather than overly traditional.
These thoughtful details are often what make a space feel truly custom. They create dimension, softness, and a sense of personality that helps a home feel layered and special.
We especially loved seeing how these decorative elements were paired with cleaner silhouettes, creating a balance between refined and relaxed.

Rich Colour is Finding Its Way Into Furnishings
While warm neutrals remain important, we also saw a noticeable shift toward richer, moodier colour being introduced through furnishings and case goods.
One standout trend was colourful lacquered furniture, particularly in deep earthy tones like aubergine, olive, rust, and oxblood. Aubergine lacquered coffee tables and richly coloured cabinetry brought a sense of depth and individuality to many of the spaces we visited.
These pieces felt bold yet approachable and are a beautiful way to introduce colour without overwhelming a space. We love seeing clients become more open to thoughtful colour in ways that still feel sophisticated and enduring.

Why We Continue to Support Canadian Makers
While High Point is an incredible source of inspiration, we remain deeply committed to supporting Canadian furniture makers and suppliers whenever possible.
Many of the furnishings we source for our projects are made in Canada by skilled craftspeople and long standing manufacturing partners who prioritize quality, craftsmanship, and customization.
Supporting Canadian makers allows us to offer our clients beautifully made pieces while also supporting local industry and reducing some of the uncertainty that can come with overseas production and shipping.
That said, High Point continues to be an invaluable experience for our studio. It allows us to stay inspired, informed, and connected to the broader design industry while thoughtfully bringing fresh ideas back to the homes we create here in Canada.

The Importance of Connection Within the Design Industry
One of the most valuable parts of attending High Point Market is the opportunity to connect with others in the design industry.
Beyond the showrooms and product launches, High Point creates space for conversation, collaboration, and shared inspiration among designers, makers, and business leaders from across North America. This season, we loved seeing new launches, including Amber Interiors’ latest rug collection, and attending thoughtful business discussions led by industry leaders such as LuAnn Nigara. These conversations are always incredibly inspiring and offer valuable insight into both the creative and business side of our industry.
Laurie also had the opportunity to attend an intimate dinner gathering with Anastasia Casey founder of IDCO Studio and Mary Beth Chau, CEO of Materio. Fostering meaningful connections with other creatives and professionals who are helping shape the future of the design industry is one of the reasons why Sprague Interiors continues to stands out as a leader. Experiences like these are an important reminder that thoughtful design is not created in isolation. It grows through community, collaboration, and continual learning.
Homes That Feel Collected, Not Decorated
When natural materials, patina, texture, colour, and pattern are layered together, something shifts. A home no longer feels like it has been decorated, it feels collected. Each piece has a purpose. Each material contributes to the whole and the result is a space that feels effortless, even though every detail has been considered.

Designed to Be Lived In
Trends come and go, but spaces that feel personal and grounded have a lasting quality.
They soften with time. They become more comfortable with use. And they continue to feel like a true reflection of the people who live there.
This is what allows a home to feel deeply personal. Not because it avoids change, but because it embraces materials and choices that grow more meaningful over time.
A Thoughtful Approach to Your Home
At its core, interior design is about creating a space that feels right for you.
For many of our clients, that means a home that is warm, layered, and deeply connected to how they live. Natural materials, patina, texture, colour, and pattern allow us to create that feeling in a way that is both elevated and enduring. So that your home does not just look beautiful. It feels like a place you want be in.

Looking Ahead
One of our favourite things about attending High Point Market is seeing how design continues to evolve toward homes that feel warmer, more personal, and more reflective of the people living in them.
The most beautiful interiors are no longer about perfection. They are about comfort, character, layering, and creating spaces that truly feel lived in and loved.
And that is a direction we are always excited to embrace.
Inspired by what is next in interiors? If you are planning a new project, we would love to hear what you are envisioning.
